Wood Micro School offers all core subject classes a student needs for graduation; however, as a micro-school, Wood Micro School does not necessarily offer every class every semester.

● Math Classes— Algebra 1, Geometry, and Financial Math classes are scheduled one semester per year. Students are able to take additional math courses through an online-self paced program.

● Science Class— Biology is scheduled one semester per year. Students are able to take additional science courses through an online-self paced program.

● Social Studies Classes— US History is scheduled one semester per year, Government will be a daily 15 minute discussion over current events, and Economics will be in correlation with the required Dave Ramsey’s Financial Institution course. Students are able to take additional social studies courses through an online-self paced program.

ELECTIVE COURSES

Elective courses are an important component of a well-rounded high school education. Elective classes allow students to pursue their personal interests and learn more about potential careers.

Wood Micro School offers 3 different options for electives:

● Online — Wood Micro School provides a large option of online elective classes. Time spent will determine credit earned. Courses can be half semester or full year.

● Off-Campus — Students may earn elective credit for the activities they pursue outside of school hours, such as sports, music, dance, religion, choir, culinary, etc. Credits earned will be based on time spent. Students are required to document their activities in their student portfolio. On the high school transcript, the grade will be listed as Pass/Fail.

● Work Program — Students can earn credits for having a job. This is not required, but it is encouraged.

Graduation Requirements

Wood Micro School requires 24 credits to graduate from high school and receive a high school diploma. In order to graduate in three years, students should plan to take 8 credits each year of high school. Students transferring into Wood Micro School their junior/senior year must complete one full year at WMS and earn a minimum of 5 credits.

Students earn “high school credits” for each course they complete while enrolled in Wood Micro School. Credits are granted based on time spent on discussions, readings and lectures, study and research, and assignments. Each credit hour corresponds to a minimum of 3 hours of study engagement per week for a minimum of 14 weeks. For example, a 14 week course, 3 hours a week (block scheduling), earns one credit.
